Custom data series lets you bring external data – such as private funds, real estate, cryptocurrency, and alternative investments – into Koyfin by uploading your own price and date series. With this feature, you can seamlessly integrate unsupported assets into Watchlists, Charts, and Portfolios, keeping everything in one place.

How to Add Custom Securities

  • Ticker Picker:
    • Navigate to the Custom category in the ticker picker while adding securities to Watchlists, Graphs, or Portfolios.
    • Click the + Create Custom Security button to open the creation window.
  • ‘My Data’:
    • Go to My Data > Custom Data to manage or create new entries.
    • Click + Create Custom Data to open the creation window.

Steps to Create a Custom Security

  • Enter Details:
    • Name: Provide a unique name for the security.
    • Ticker: Enter a ticker for the security.
    • Asset Allocation: Select from options like equity, fixed income, or cash.
    • Instrument Type: Choose the instrument type (e.g., private equity, real estate, etc.).
    • Currency: Choose a currency (e.g., $100) or a plain number (e.g., 100). Only data with a currency is portfolio-compatible.
  • Upload Data:
    • Upload a CSV file containing the price and date series for your security.

How to Edit Custom Securities

  • Go to My Data > Custom Data > and click the Edit button next to the security you want to modify.
  • Click the Upload CSV button and choose:
    • Append Exisiting: Adds new data to existing data.
    • + New: Replaces the existing dataset with new data.
  • Click Save Changes to apply your updates.

How to Use Custom Securities

Once added, your Custom Securities can be analyzed using Koyfin’s tools; available in the ticker search selection under the ‘CUSTOM’ category.

  1. Watchlists: Add your custom securities to Watchlists to monitor alongside other assets and quickly track performance, weights, and other relevant metrics.
  2. Charts: Plot historical performance, compare trends, and overlay Custom Securities with other securities or indicators.
  3. Portfolios: Add Custom Securities to My Portfolio, Model Portfolios, or Client Portfolios for a comprehensive view of holdings, allocations, and performance.

Custodial Custom Securities

When importing securities that are not supported in Koyfin from custodian integrations like Schwab (such as corporate bonds, treasury bills, and options), previously these securities would be exempt from the portfolio.
With Koyfin’s custom security engine, these securities will now be replicated in the portfolio, meaning you will be presented with their exposure, market value, and profit/loss data. This data will be translated into reports too.
Please note, that due to a lack of historical pricing data for these ingested securities, only the latest price provided in the import will be available.

  • Pro Plan: Unlimited custom securities.
  • Advisor Pro Plan: Unlimited custom securities.
  • Enterprise Plan: Unlimited custom securities.
