v3.60: [Client Portfolios] Households

We’re excited to announce some big upgrades to Client Portfolios. We’ve introduced a three-tiered structure that allows you to represent the Households, Portfolios, and Accounts of your client’s investments.

This article explains how to create and manage client accounts with these improvements.

Note: With the release of the new Household structure:

  • All existing accounts have been placed under a default No Household group.
  • Households are collapsed by default on the Client Portfolios homepage. Click the arrow next to No Household to expand and view your portfolios and accounts.

Client Portfolios now support a three-tier structure:

  1. Household – Top-level, aggregates portfolios
  2. Portfolio – Mid-level, aggregates accounts
  3. Account  – Base-level, individual investment account

This structure allows you to:

  • Organize related client investments logically
  • View aggregated data at the portfolio and household levels
  • Move accounts between portfolios, and portfolios between households
  • Generate Reports at any level: household, portfolio or account

Getting Started

Create Households and Portfolios

From the Client Portfolios homepage, use the + Add New button in the top-right corner to:

  • Create a new Household
  • Create a new Portfolio

Creating a Household

Select Household from the + Add New menu, enter the name and any key details, then click Add Household.

Creating a Portfolio

Select Portfolio from the + Add New menu, then choose how to create it:

  • Manually
  • Import via CSV or PDF
  • Import from custodians

In the Portfolio creation/edit window, you can:

  • Name the portfolio and configure key details like fees, currency, and benchmark.
  • Assign the portfolio to a household or leave it unassigned
  • Add sub-accounts to the portfolio, populating their cash balance and lot-level holdings.

Note: Every account must be assigned to a portfolio.

Assign Portfolio to Household

When creating or editing a Portfolio, go to the Assigned Household section:

  • Select an existing Household
  • Leave it unassigned (shown as No Household)

Organizing & Editing

On the Client Portfolios homepage, hover over any row and click the three-dot menu (⋯) to:

  • Rename Households, Portfolios, or Accounts
  • Edit Households and Portfolios
  • Move a Portfolio to another Household, or an Account to another Portfolio
  • Duplicate a Portfolio
  • Delete Households, Portfolios, and Accounts

Editing

You can edit any Household, Portfolio, or Account in two ways:

Hover over the row, click the ⋯ menu, and select Edit.
  • From the entity’s page (Household, Portfolio, or Account):
Click the Edit button in the top-right corner.

Moving Portfolios and Accounts

To move items between levels:

  1. From the Client Portfolios homepage, hover over the row, click the ⋯ menu, and select Move to.
  2. Follow the prompts:
  • Moving a Portfolio: Select the Household you want to move it to.
  • Moving an Account: Select both the Household and Portfolio where the account should be placed.

Create Reports at Any Level

Reports can be created from the Household, Portfolio, or Account level.

Two ways to do this:

  1. From the Client Portfolio homepage: Hover over the row, click the ⋯ menu, and select Create Report

2. From the entity page (Household, Portfolio, or Account): Click Create Report button in the top-right corner.

When creating a report, you can also open the ticker picker, navigate to the Client Portfolio category, and select the Household, Portfolio, or Account you want to report on. Each item is labeled (“household”, “portfolio”, or “account”) to help you identify it.

Schwab Integration

When importing accounts from Schwab:

  • All imported accounts are grouped into a new Untitled Portfolio
  • That Portfolio is placed under No Household by default
  • Each import creates a separate Untitled Portfolio
  • You can rename and move the portfolio and accounts as needed

Use the breadcrumb navigation at the top of the screen to switch between Household → Portfolio → Account views.

When viewing a level with multiple items (e.g., multiple accounts in a Portfolio), use the dropdown to switch between them easily.
